2BInformed: Understanding the EPA’s New PFAS Strategic Roadmap and Upcoming PBT Regulations

This week on 2BInformed, Erik Baptist and Charlotte Bertrand focus on the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) newly released “PFAS Strategic Roadmap” and the EPA’s regulations on Persistent, Bioaccumulative, and Toxic (PBT) chemicals under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). Erik and Charlotte discuss how the new PFAS Strategic Roadmap came to be and how the three R’s – Research, Restrict, and Remediate – will impact the use of PFAS chemicals moving forward. The pair then share their thoughts on PBT chemicals and further restrictions on exposure to be implemented by the EPA, noting that “the EPA…recognizes the wide range of key consumer and commercial goods that are impacted by this ruling. They include cellular telephones, laptop computers, and other electronic and electrical devices; and industrial and commercial equipment used in various sectors such as transportation, construction, agriculture, forestry, mining, and semi-conductor production.”
